The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was signed into law in October and starting January 1, 2009 the law expanded and extended valuable federal tax credits for homeowners that make certain energy efficient upgrades. Benefits include lower energy bills, reduced home air pollution, and increased indoor comfort.  You can also save with the energy efficient products that are eligible for the new federal tax credits that actually lower the amount of federal income taxes that taxpayers must pay. *NOTE: maximum of $500 total for home improvements

In some areas and regions, consumers will also be eligible for utility rebates, state rebates, or state tax incentives for homes, vehicles, and equipment.

The annual Take a Kid Trout Fishing event is being sponsored by the Ellendale Ruritans and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is Saturday March 21st from 8:00 - 12:00 at the Ellendale Pond behind the community building.

All children under 16 can fish, but must be accompanied by an adult. One fishing rod per child (provide your own) is a requirement. A limited amount of bait or lures will be available to borrow - so plan accordingly. A limit of seven trout may be posses during the event.

The Target Distribution Center will be holding a job fair on March 19 - 21, 2009. They are going to begin the process of hiring almost 600 people.  The Distribution Center is located on NC 10 in Newton. They are seeking applicants for the 580 planned positions.

Applicants will not be interviewed during the event and there will be no jobs offered those days. Target officials will go over job descriptions, the company profile, and provide an application. Target will review the applications and later contact candidates for interviews.  Previously, job seekers were encouraged to complete applications online. However anyone who submitted an online application is encouraged to reapply.
