How do I get a Google rank better than a 1?

I am currently trying to get a better Google ranking for my site and need to increase my Google ranking from a 1. Although I believe that my website www.mikekellyjr.com is quite good I can not seem to break past a 1 ranking. Any advice?? I have been to several spots like websitegrader.com as well as scrubtheweb.com for advice but still can not seem to get the ranking higher.

Go to other sites that rank well within the search criteria you are using. Right click the page and click source.

Then, look at the meta tags and keywords they are using. Take those words and check them for popularity in seodigger.com. Use those words in a priority that puts the most used first in your metatag, header etc....

Hope this helps. Check my ranking on www.GoldBeachOregon.net

Michael,  These are several blogs on the topic throughout Active Rain.  I would find a few bloggers knowledgable on the subject and read everything they write on the subject.

I guess I am missing something. I am sitting here trying to understand how you can rank better than 1. What am I missing here?

Google assigns each website a ranking from 0-10. The Higher the number the better. My site being ranked a 1 is not too good despite my current google ranking for the search terms I deem important. I feel that if I could get it to a 3 or 4 then maybe I could be on page 1.

Mike - It takes time and regular additions to your site.

My site used to have a Google PR of 4.  Then I move across the country and re-did my site for my new state of Connecticut. My Google PR dropped to 3 and then to 1.  I kept working on new content for the site.  I eventually was back up to a 2, and now I'm at a 3.

It appears Google changes their algorithms, and readjusts their Page Ranks every 6 months or so.

Use the time between each update to add more content to your site.  Content is king.  But, apparently, the age of the site seems to have a lot to do with it, too.  My site is still a work in progress - it always will be, otherwise it may grow stale in the eyes of Google.
